Coaching & Mentoring
Shaping People for the Future
Coaching is …
Coaching is both a process and a relationship, where individuals are supported to help them improve their performance. The relationship is usually between two people – the coach and the individual. All coaching relationships are different, but most will involve a series of conversations over a period of time, where the coach will help and support the individual to learn and develop in order to improve their performance.
Mentoring is …
A process in which one person (mentor) is responsible for overseeing the career and development of another person (mentee) outside the normal manager/subordinate relationship.
Everyone Needs a Mentor (2001) by David Clutterbuck
In the past, coaching and mentoring were reserved for senior managers and company directors. Now many organisations make them available to all staff as professional or personal development tools.
Coaching and mentoring are also extremely helpful during organisational change, to help staff accept and adapt to the changes in a manner consistent with their personal values and goals, as well as to bring long-term benefit to the organisation. In addition, these two techniques can aid an organisation to move towards a 'self-managed' culture where the employees take responsibility for their own personal growth.
So, if would you like to:
- improve your staff's morale
- increase their motivation
- boost their productivity
- make your employees feel valued
- reduce staff turnover
McManus HRD can help you achieve these very desirable aims.
