The Occupational Health Team of TFL has worked with Laurell Hector over a period of months in 2004/2005 on Team Development. This work took place during a time of major organisational change, including some members of staff leaving and others taking on greater responsibility, in the case of 4 people, completely new people management responsibilities.

Laurell was able to work both with individuals and with teams, firstly to improve what were difficult team dynamics and later to help people identify and improve their performance.

Laurell is personable, dynamic and effective. She helps people identify their learning needs and then meet them quickly. She engenders trust, invites confidences and uses them discreetly and wisely.

She is quick to see how things could be done differently, is persuasive in pointing such improvements out and is able to leave the responsibility to make those changes to the individuals.

We have more recently asked Laurell back to work with us improving customer focus.

McManus HRD Ltd created two bespoke learning and development programmes for us. The first was aimed at developing potential in junior levels of staff through out the company, in order to prepare them for future management roles. A ten module programme was developed to give a broad level of understanding in people management techniques and general business acumen. The second was created specifically for middle managers with a current remit to manage direct reports. It was designed to hone their management techniques and prepare them for future senior management roles, through a series of modules & one to one coaching sessions. As well as designing and delivering the overall programmes McManus HRD Ltd planned and delivered the assessment centers.

Both development programmes have been incredibly successful in creating a talent pool of potential new managers and a more proficient and effective middle management structure. The benefit to the business has been amazing leading to a lower rate of turnover in our Customer Services department and an increased bottom line. In addition to this a greater level of team working and departmental co-operation has been achieved, as delegates have been asked to work with staff from outside of their area.

Laurell McManus (formley Hector) has worked with the Occupational Health Department at Transport for London on several projects over the past couple of years. She has provided coaching for the senior management team in line with organisational objectives, supported the Head of Occupational Health and the department following a restructure, and provided customer service training for the administration teams.

Senior managers in the team all found the one to one coaching to be a valuable opportunity to reflect in a safe environment on their management skills and style. Her work with the whole department has assisted significantly with communications between the various teams and grades. Following the administration team training we have received a useful report with recommendations that provide us with a constructive way forward as we strive to continually improve in the area of customer service.
